Summer is here, and I have a pair of fresh works to share!
These two works were created at the request of Rev. Josh Lee, at my church where I’m Artist in Residence (Boise First Congregational United Church of Christ) to help express a series of sermons that Rev. Lee titles “Genderful God.”
Rev. Lee preaches that God is male, female, straight, queer, mother, father, parent, child, and more. God is all of these expressions of sexes and genders of the spectrum of humanity and nature.
Introducing Genderful God
Here’s a look at my Genderful God artwork: One is a carved and inked woodblock, “Creator” (right) carved to create the woodblock print on paper “Created” (left). The intention was to express that we are all created in God’s image, regardless of our differences.

The two pieces, and the two colors – orange and violet – play with the spectrum of binary vs. nonbinary expressions of human sex and gender.
All the species portrayed in these works are intentional but certainly not comprehensive suggestions of nature’s sex and gender diversity. Clownfish and green frogs can change their sex, seahorse males carry their young, and many plants including the lily have both male and female sex organs in their blossoms.
The people portrayed suggest a spectrum of sex and gender identities, but of course, they are just a drop in the vast oceans of human expressions. There’s a man like Jesus with long hair rising out of the water, and a woman emerging too. There is a male belly dancer, and a female water polo player. And there is a child who has their whole life to figure out a gender.
These works will be on display at Boise First Congregational United Church of Christ (located at 2201 Woodlawn Ave, Boise, ID 83702) for the month of June during the series of sermons. After that, I’m open to selling these works if you want to contact me for details!
Introducing Growing Fonder
In addition to this fresh work, I have a new 8 Card Pack of some bestsellers entitled “Growing Fonder!”

Growing Fonder 8 Card Pack ($30 through my website) “Absence makes the heart grow fonder” is so true!
Use these bestselling cards for sending a note of friendship, birthday wishes, welcoming a new baby, or expressing condolences. Their versatility is very useful!
The cards are 4.25 x 5.5 inches, on vellum paper, folded, blank on the inside, and sent in a cellophane envelope including 8 greeting card envelopes.
For the original artwork printed on these cards, I paint with watercolor, or carve into wood for inking to make woodblock prints, and often use the wood itself as a canvas for Carved Paintings. I paint and use pyrography (woodburning) and collage onto wood. These processes make these fine art works so unique!
