Join My Spring 2024 Woodblock Printmaking Class!

Woodblock printmaking is an ancient art. In our fast-paced and ever more high-tech, impersonal, and automated world, woodblock printmaking is a slow, low-tech, handmade art form that is genuine and personal.

Who doesn’t love to feel proud about displaying their own unique creation, or giving or receiving a handmade card in the mail featuring custom art?

About the Woodblock Printmaking Class

I will be teaching a Woodblock Printmaking Class on April 13, 2024 from 2 pm-6:30 pm at Catalyst Arts Collaborative.

Come join us for this all experience levels, low pressure and unique opportunity to create your own greeting cards, works on paper, and a woodblock that can also be a work of art in itself! This is an excellent way to learn how to work with wood and ink, and is accessible to everyone 12+ who can carve independently with sharp chisels after instruction on safe use.

You can work from designs I will provide, or bring your own 6″x8″ drawings! Depending on the class, it’s possible that each student can make up to two woodblock designs to print from.

Here are some photos of work by students who worked from their own designs:

Artists often chose nature themes or abstract designs.

This student made her own original and one-of-a-kind greeting cards!

There will be a range of inks to choose from – or mix your own colors!

You will learn about necessary concepts and techniques like utilizing positive and negative space, as well as mirror image thinking, while you carve your woodblock. All prints from your woodblock will be mirror images of the carved block, which is something to keep in mind if you decide to bring your own drawings to work from!

Students consistently report having a great time making their prints and handmade cards! We also have a lot of fun sharing and cheering each other on as we work!
