Meditations: A Show at Roots, and an Art-Making Class Opportunity

For the month of July, I will have my work up at Roots Zero Waste Market if you want to come peruse the produce, get a snack at the deli, and see some art, all while being environmentally friendly!

There’s also an opportunity to sign up for a woodblock printmaking and collage class happening at Catalyst Arts Collaborative on July 15, 2023 from 1:30-6:00pm. Make woodblock prints and collage with them! Click here to learn more and sign up.

A Meditative Show at Roots

About the show at Roots: I work with wood. I carve, burn, collage on, and make woodblock prints on paper. The works in this show are fresh original paintings on basswood and African mahogany, and woodblock prints on paper.

All of the pieces here deal with the inner experience of meditating. Whether traditional meditation, in prayer, or sitting quietly with thoughts, these works were mostly inspired by my faith tradition and observe faith events like Easter, but are not all necessarily liturgically based.

Creating artwork is how I worship and connect to the Spirit. I share work at my church as Artist in Residence. And I encourage artists in the congregation.

The opening for the Roots Show is Sunday, July 9th from 1:00-3:00pm at Roots Zero Waste Market, 3308 W. Chinden Blvd., Garden City, ID, 83714. There will be wine and appetizers! Come see some art and check out this environmentally savvy market!

This show features work over several years, spanning the pandemic times, negative social climates, and the suffering of so many. The work is intended to lift people up, even from dark places, through nature, abstract expression, and gazing inward.

Sometimes the universe seems as infinite inward as outward. This show at Roots shows some of my inner journey that might touch your own.

A Woodblock Printmaking Class

About the upcoming class on July 15, 2023 at 1:30-6:00: This class welcomes all art experience levels, and will teach how to create woodblock prints, with an opportunity to collage them and share afterwards!

Bring your friends or a date and share blocks and prints to make more elaborate, collaborative designs!

You have the option of going deeply into the woodblock printmaking process, and/or use your prints (or other’s prints) to create powerful collages/paintings on paper. Participants will walk away with several finished prints or collages, the woodblock they carved their design into (a work of art in itself!), and the knowledge to create more woodblock prints in the future.

Conclusion

So come on down to Roots to pick up delicious and environmentally responsible food and enjoy this summertime show featuring my meditative artwork. And/or sign up for my woodblock printmaking and collage class!

There’s lots going on in the art scene and I hope you can join me!
