February/March 2022 Riverside Hotel Show

I had the privilege of a solo show at the Riverside Hotel. It was a great honor and a fantastic learning experience. Most importantly, it’s a major milestone in my career as an artist!

That’s why I’m so excited to share some of my strongest work with you!

This February until March 31, 2022, I have eight works on display on the second floor of the Riverside Hotel (2900 W Chinden Blvd Garden City, ID 83714).

The show features strong examples of my unique carved basswood paintings, and a collage/painting on paper.

Foothills in the Rain (2021) Carved, woodburnt, and inked basswood. 39″x24.5″ with African mahogany frame (not pictured) $ 2500

Prices for the original paintings are included beneath each painting image (with the exception of Kestrel, which is not for sale). Please email me at grettybetharts@gmail.com with your interest, or click on the paintings to go to the links in my website store.

Kingfisher (2020) Carved, woodburnt, and inked basswood. 17.5″x24.5″ with African mahogany frame (not pictured) $850

The Way and the Light: I (2021) Carved and inked basswood. 19″x19″ with African mahogany frame (not pictured) $800

The Way and the Light: I is a smaller painting in preparation for a 4 foot by 6 foot Christmas Eve painting, The Way and the Light: II. This preparatory painting brings me joy as a work itself.

Easter Lotus (2021) Carved and inked basswood. 25.5″x18″ with African mahogany frame (not pictured) $1000

Easter Lotus is a work about being reborn. The mud and muck are necessary for the roots of a beautiful blossom to grow.

Kestrel (2020) Carved, woodburnt, and inked basswood. 17.5″x24.5″ with walnut frame (not pictured) NFS

The Kestrel painting is about nature coexisting with urban development. The bright interpreted colors express my respect for this animal as its environment is being pushed out and compacted into tinier spaces as development happens in my city.

From the right: Death Metal, and Advent: Faith
Death Metal (2021) Carved, woodburnt, and inked basswood. 21.25″x17.25″ with wenge frame (not pictured) $780

Death Metal is a visual translation of music from my friend Russell Eck’s album Sail Into the Abyss. It channels the misanthropy, anger, and the frustration I felt. The basswood is heavily carved and burnt as a destructive form of creation.

Advent: Faith (2020) Carved and inked basswood. 20.25″x25.5″ with African mahogany frame (not pictured) $1000

Advent: Faith is a depiction of all of the layers of what makes up a person’s faith. Loved ones, difficulties, and challenges, the community, the environment, places one feels worshipful, rituals and connections to the Divine, etc.

Advent: Hope (2020) Collaged and painted ink on paper. 29.5″x24.5″ with mat, walnut frame, under glass (not pictured). $1200

Advent: Hope is a depiction of how life is complicated and sometimes has barriers, such as the pandemic, but hope burns and shines through all of the obstacles.

Conclusion

Seeing these works in person is best, if you have the opportunity to visit the second floor of the Riverside Hotel before March 31, 2022.

High quality giclee limited edition reproductions of these works are available for $80, with the exception of Foothills in the Rain, for which the reproduction is $100. Click on the paintings to go to the links in my website store.

I create works that express my spirituality, and perhaps they touch your own spirit to purchase a Gretty Beth Arts original. Email me at grettybetharts@gmail.com and let me know about your interest in an original painting!

Developing this style of work has been a fun evolution of ideas and experimentation. I’m driven to innovate continuously as part of my journey as an artist, and I’m so glad that you can be a part of it!
